Beautiful Bali

27 hours after waving goodbye to Seattle we landed at 1am in Bali, one of 18,000 islands in Indonesia.  The boys did awesome on the flights, and despite the length we arrived in Bali more or less in-tact. Thankfully, our pre-arranged driver, Mr. Katut, was there to take us to the villa we would call home for the next two weeks.

Thank you Gram for the leash to keep Burke's beloved Mimi safe during transport!

After finally convincing the boys that it was actually the middle of the night, so-will-you-please-try-and-close-your-eyes, we rested a few hours and awoke to a veritable paradise. So LUSH! We are situated in the coastal village of Canguu (pronounced Chan-goo) and it’s one of the quieter resort areas of Bali. It’s more of a haven for surfers and vegans than party animals. Canguu is bordered by black sand beaches with waves that draw surfers from around the world. On the interior, Canguu is surrounded by verdant rice paddies and it was fun to show the boys how rice is made while looking at the fields we pass each day.

We specifically chose this place to start our trip off without having to worry about each meal and activity. The villa has been perfect, with it’s own pool and lovely hosts who not only take care of the facility but also make wonderful Balinese food. We luxuriated in having them cook breakfast for the first week to give us a break. The boys love feeding the fish in the walkway just inside the front gate, and everywhere we look we see all manner of lizards, frogs, and birds. We really stuck close to the villa the first week to just get over jet-lag, which took about 4 days before we were sleeping through the night and waking up anytime after 6a.  It was a wonderful first week!
